The Big Fish: Mike Trout

Did you know that Mike Trout has won 8 awards in only 7 seasons of his time in the MLB?

He has won two American League MVP awards, one in 2014 and again in 2016. He also finished second in the voting for three other years – 2012, 2013, 2015. He’s won an All-Star MVP for the American League in 2014 and 2015 as well as Rookie of the Year and Overall Defensive Player in 2012. He received the Hank Aaron Award for best hitter in the American League in 2014.

Mike Trout was born in Vineland, New Jersey. He is 26 years old and he plays centerfield for the Los Angeles Angels. He is a six-time MLB all-sta . He loves the game and is known for being a positive team member and always pushing himself to work harder and be better. Last season, he had 402 at bats with 123 hits including 33 home runs. He scored 92 times and had 72 RBI’s (runs batted in). He stole 22 bases and only got caught stealing four times. His contribution to his team have passed the records of at least 30 Hall of Famers.

Mike Trout is industrious. When he was drafted into the MLB, he was known for not having the best throwing arm. Even though he already made into the Majors, he focused on improving his arm, which helped him earn a nomination for MVP in only his second season. Mike trout shows up early before games and practices to put everything he has into playing. He spends hours in the batting cage and the weight room. He takes it seriously every time. No matter how good he gets, he’s always trying to improve. He plays hard every game as if it might be his last.

Mike Trout is strategic. When he’s up at bat he identifies patterns to help him be successful. He is very patient with the strike zone and analyzes pitches well. What makes him a great hitter is that he knows his strike zone – he knows what pitches he hits best and which ones to lay off. Not all hitters do this well.

Mike Trout is a risk-taker. When he makes mistakes, he always moves past his failure right away to figure out what to do next. One game he struck out twice in a row. When he got In the dugout he threw his bat with frustration and after he came back he said ” I’ve figured it out. I’ve got him next time.” Then after he hit a double! That’s called having a growth mindset. The people who are willing to take risks and make mistakes the most will end up understanding the game the most. Mike Trout reminds me to never get down on myself when I make mistakes because mistakes help you find more ways to success.

Mike Trout can always been seen smiling when he’s playing baseball because he loves it. He doesn’t do things to get attention, he’s honest and humble and is grateful for everything that has happened to him. He’s a great role model and you can see how the Successful Learner Traits have helped him be the best at what he does, even though he has no idea what the Successful Learner Traits are. I chose to comment on his ability to be a Risk-Taker, Strategic and Industrious, but you can find examples of all the traits in Mike Trout.

See you on the blog.

About Me

Hi, People!
My name is Finn. I’m 12 years old, I’m in grade 7 and I live in Comox Valley. Just to let you know this post is mostly about sports that I play.

Here are some things I enjoy…

Playing my ukulele and guitar
Drawing cartoons in my sketch book
Playing baseball

Baseball is my favourite sport to play. I love to practice it and play against other teams. It has always been in my family and I will never stop playing it .
This summer I went to a MLB game in Seattle. It was really cool. Safeco was a huge stadium and it was my first time every seeing a professional baseball team play live. I watched the Seattle Mariners vs the Los Angeles Angels. The Mariners almost won, but the Angels squeaked out a win. Since the Angels were playing I also got to see Mike Trout play. He was pretty cool to watch. He’s one of the best MLB players and could end up winning MVP for the third time this year.

I love to play volleyball too. I’m on my school’s team now, but I really want to play club volleyball afterwards. That’s the more competitive community team that happens after the school league is done.

I used to play a lot of soccer, but it took up a lot of time and I wanted to focus on baseball more. I sometimes play road hockey with my friends as well.

What are your favourite things to do? Do you enjoy any of the activities that I like to do? Feel free to let me know!

See you on the blog, Finn
